Month to month. If you choose to be on the web, take it seriously and get the best ROI by understanding how it works. Putting up a static website "brochure" will not pay off in the long run. You have to be in the marathon, not the retail sale du jour.

Re: 8 Great Questions To Answer Before Starting a Web Design Project

I like your tips about looking at competitors' websites. The current relatively low price of Facebook is meaningless, it's more the long-term that matters. This importance that companies are putting on Facebook, more than anything else, is illustrated just about anywhere you look. Whether it's big brands promoting their Facebook pages in their Super Bowl Ads, big national media promoting Facebook for their interview segments, smaller local businesses putting stickers in their windows begging people to like their page, or even the dozens of companies listed at http://www.buyfacebookfansr... there's so much of an emphasis by all sizes of companies on getting sales and interest via Facebook that I still look at their long-term future as pretty bright.

Re: 9 Steps to Balanced Search Engine Optimization

Great overview, but I think it remains to be said that good SEO is mostly about good content and good web development to make sure URLs are descriptive and don't break and all other common best practices are followed. Today, it's no longer enough for companies to treat their websites as a digital brochure where they can only advertise their products/services. Online customers expect a more engaging website where they can interact, socialize and increase their awareness. The 'content is king' concept remains very much true when it comes to using websites to generate leads for our business.Thanks.

Re: 3 Little Things to Get Right in Social Marketing

You are absolutely right and very effective points you have discussed in your blog and honestly i will say that i never think about these points, but now after read your post i feel that i was mission very important things and now i will always keep in mind these points to be successful in social marketing.

Re: 3 Reasons Inbound Marketing is Critical for Nonprofits

Hi Rhonda,

Thank you for your question. It's interesting -- you're the 2nd person to ask something similar, so it seems the term "inbound marketing" isn't as clear as it needs to be.

Inbound marketing is an approach that takes into account recent shifts in customer behavior. The premise is that people are overwhelmed by marketing messages, they have better tools to filter them out (DVRs, caller ID, etc.) and that it's preferable to "earn" awareness than to "buy" it. The primary ways people become aware, interested, and actually engaged these days is through search engines and social media, moreso than from watching an ad on TV or in a magazine.

Buying awareness is obvious (advertising, direct mail, cold calling, etc.,) but how do you "earn" awareness? You use the tools that are now available to everyone - blogs, SEO, social media, email. These tools allow all organizations to create and distribute valuable content, build a community, and inspire evangelism. This is especially true for many nonprofits. The tools, used properly, also allow you to capture more leads and better scale the nurturing process.

This approach is what we mean by "inbound marketing." Some call it "content marketing" and others "pull marketing." Outbound marketing is about pushing messages outward and hoping that people pay attention. Much of the time though, what they feel is interrupted.

I hope that was helpful. The upside was that people I've never interacted with before were "liking" and responding to my comments. The downside was that it created a conversation distraction where I wasn't expecting one, but I could probably fix that in the settings. Overall, I'm surprised I haven't seen it deployed more often. Disqus, Livefyre and other similar tools seem to have held their ground against the Facebook encroachment thus far.

Re: How to Find the Content Goldmine in Your Own Backyard

True, Becky.
